Introducing EyLog – A new insight into your child’s development

At Bright Beginnings we pride ourselves on our continuous effort to be at the forefront of advancement and development in regard to child development. So let us introduce our latest endeavor, EyLog, an online observation-tracking tool that allows parents instant access to and opportunity to input into their child’s development, as well as establishing a dialogue with our practitioners.

EyLog is an in-depth, secure online system that allows our practitioners to easily complete detailed observations, assessments and planning for individual children. After which parents are able download the EyLog app and login to see reports of their child’s development in real-time. Allowing for greater transparency and effective relationships between you as parents and us here at Bright Beginnings. Using EyLog enables us to take and upload video and photographic evidence so you can not only read but also see your child developing!

Bright Beginnings has introduced EyLog as part of our paperless ‘Go-Green’ initiative. The online/tablet-based approach to creating reports and observations is helping us reduce our carbon footprint by removing the need for piles of paper. It also saves you as parents having to take home endless day reports!

Expanding the learning environment from the classroom to the whole world. Pioneered by our own Sharon Styles, here at Bright Beginnings we’ve begun to grow our own micro-forest school!

 Our conscientious approach to childcare and development has ensured we are always considering ways to help our bright beginners become future stars. As such we have continued to make numerous improvements to our outdoor learning environments resulting in our most recent endeavor, the creation of our own micro-forest.

Sharon, our assistant manager, has always had a passion for the forest school approach to learning, having visited numerous forest schools in both Denmark and the UK:

“Forest schools in the UK are greatly different from the preschools in Denmark but one thing is evident that children are encouraged to respect, utilise and manage risks & responsibilities surrounding the great natural world. Children are provided with good old-fashioned learning opportunities from the natural elements stripping our current materialistic world and the need to have expensive resources and toys that can actually limit children’s imagination. Children can be supported and their interactions scaffolded by responsive adults who allow children to use open-ended resources to think, create and play with purpose to develop their ever-growing skills. For me there is no better way to learn than from the natural elements that have been provided for us.”

Following its’ original conceptualization and implementation in 1927, Wisconsin by H. L. Russell and Wakelin McNeil, respectively, the forest school ethos was introduced to Europe in 1950. In 1957 Goesta Frohm developed the “Skogsmulle” concept, designed to promote learning about nature, water, mountains and pollution.

The concept, in its’ current form, was introduced to England in the 1990’s leading to the formation of the Forest Education Initiative (FEI), which has resulted in the continual exploration and research into the concept.

Early years educators have always recognized the benefits of outdoor play and the potential of the outdoors as a learning environment. Through this perspective we believe forest concept can be instrumental in capitalizing on this potential.


Now it may not be Sherwood yet but the staff and children are well on their way to creating Robin a summer retreat.

Kangas – ‘Let’s Tell A Story’



We had an exciting visit from our friends Pauline and Catherine from Balby Children’s Centre, who will be coming back every Wednesday for the next 3 weeks, as part of the ‘Lets Tell A Story’ program.


Kangas had a wonderful time greeting our new friends and a big sing along, the favourite being the one about the five cheeky monkeys! Following this the children utilized their creative and explorative skills to find and create props in order make our ‘Zoo’ story come to life.


After all fun the Kangas, staff and our new friends had big gulp of juice before it was time to say bye.

30 hour per week government funding confirmed a year in advance.

Bright Beginnings are pleased to announce the new government policy that will deliver 30 hours of free childcare to working parents with children aged 3-4.

 Childcare Minister Sam Gyimah has announced a £13 million investment, allowing councils across the country to deliver 30 hours of free childcare for hard working parents of 3- and 4-year-olds – a year ahead of schedule. With some parents able to benefit from the new policy as of this September 2016 in preparation for the full rollout come 2017.

Bright Beginnings Director Angie Ash: “We will be watching how this scheme works in the pilot areas over the next 12 month, so that we have a good understanding of the scheme and are able to help as many working parents as possible benefit from this opportunity!”

The policy comes on the back of last years’ 15 hour funding for 3- and 4-year-olds that served to benefit over 1 million children and their families. To capitalize on this success Department for Education pledged its’ commitment to working parents striving even further to remove barriers making childcare accessible as many parents as possible.

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan stated: “For too long, rising childcare costs have been a barrier preventing parents and particularly mothers from working. That’s why I’m delighted that in just a few months’ time, we will see the first families benefiting from the government’s offer of 30 hours’ free childcare for working parents”

With Childcare Minister Sam Gyimah going on to say: “I know how important childcare is from my own personal experience, and I couldn’t be more determined to make sure we give children the best start in life, support parents to work, and as a result, allow our country to prosper.”
