Our Ethos
We aim to create an environment that helps children to feel safe and relaxed, in such a way that it helps with their self-esteem, helps them to manage their emotions and creates an interest in learning. This ideal has pushed us towards embracing a Hygge approach within our setting early indications are good and we hope to achieve accreditation in the near future.
Neuroscience evidence supports the idea that the power of music helps to harness or early years cognitive development. We believe that music can play a vital part in post-pandemic recovery, uplifting the mood of both children and staff, supporting self-regulation, social cohesion and boosting foundations for literacy and maths, group skills and confidence. Embracing Boogie mites supports our ambition to support the holistic development of each child in a fun and playful way.
We place a large emphasis on our children accessing the outdoors daily, enjoying exploring the wider community and the natural environment. Connecting with the outdoor environment and nature has been proven to have huge health benefits in children. As part of our Hygge in Early Years accreditation, we have been working on exploring wanderlust. The programme looks at how we can connect with nature each and every day. Developing our own understanding as educators and also that of the children’s. It is organised around the natural rhythm of the seasons and offers opportunities to learn about wildlife, natural phenomena, and the natural world around us.
Empowering our children to learn about the world first hand and make their own informed decisions around sustainable living. Which in turn will enthuse them about being adventurers, explorers, and scientists. Teaching that sort of social responsibility early on can last a lifetime, which supports our desire to explore more sustainable ways of managing our nursery, taking children and staff with us.
We believe that communication is essential to life, every child deserves access to learning, and this is made exponentially easier if we support their early communication attempts. We use Elklan as a whole setting approach with the learning from the training being applied in one-to-one work and small groups. This ensures that all children experience the expertise and knowledge of staff, who have been trained in language centred approaches.
We aim to work sensitively with a child’s family to implement effective interventions to overcome any barriers to learning and to effectively safeguard all children. We strive to offer provision which is rapidly responsive to identified needs as we understand that early intervention is key to helping children to achieve the best outcomes.
A child’s parents or carers are their earliest and lifelong educators and advocates. We appreciate them sharing their knowledge of each child’s character, needs and interests which supports our understanding of how we can best support learning and development. We aim to share with each parent our understanding of their child’s development so that we empower parents to develop their knowledge and confidence in their role as the lifelong educator for their child.
